Being Filipino, especially in a multicultural country like America, means carrying the strength, joy, and resilience found by the countless Filipinos and Filipino Americans who shaped our collective histories. It’s about honoring the sacrifices made by those who came before us, including our grandparents and parents, in search of opportunity, and using that legacy to build something greater. I take great pride in how our stories, our food, our values of family and community help move the larger story of America forward.
It's exciting to witness how Filipino voices are slowly being amplified and shared in American media, politics and education. As a community we continue to make strides by sharing our authentic voices and experiences in all aspects of American life-- Filipino food, talent and entertainment will usher in more visibility for Filipino American candidates for elected office and leaders in civic life. I am looking forward to where the next decade takes us.
