I'm inspired by the stories of family members having to work as immigrants in other countries, bringing food for their families, and doing everything to survive and thrive. I'm inspired by these inherited tales that show me that I am a part of a bigger arc of our ancestral liberation and pursuit for a better life.
Being Filipino in the U.S. means carrying the legacy of a people who have endured challenging moments with resilience and grit all while keeping a smile. Being Filipino means being bound and empowered by the collective experience of being the unappreciated underdog, doing the hard work unseen, while bringing joy to our families and our communities.
Despite being one of the largest immigrant communities in the U.S., Filipinos are vastly underrepresented in all levels of politics and government. Filipinos must continue to make their voices heard and fight for increased visibility in all aspects of our society.
