Being Filipino means that I am part of a culture known globally to be kind, hardworking, that we enjoy feeding others and love to host parties. I am proud to be from the Bay Area, California where everyone had a Filipino friend, or at least knew someone who was Filipino and were familiar with Filipino culture. I feel grateful that my family spoke to me in Tagalog, which is not a common experience among second generation Filipino Americans. Being Filipino means that I am part of a culture where we collectively feel proud, resilient, compassionate.
