I always knew from an early age that I was different from my classmates. I definitely had crushes on girls in school but knew I could never really say anything out of fear of whatever may happen. Then when I hit my pre-teens, it dawned on me that my auntie was a lesbian and the masculine presenting woman she was living with was her long term partner. As a couple and as parents, they showed me a potential possibility to living outside of societal norms or expectations in Filipino culture. That said, it took time to discover what queerness meant to me, and it continues to be a journey of personal work as I grow and evolve as a person.
